Reconstruction
For the United States this was the biggest crisis of all time. The Southerners and Northerners started to grow further apart socially, economically and politically. Northerners wanted to limit the amount of slavery. Southerners wanted to maintain the amount of slavery. So when they had fought for differences it had became a major political crisis. Two major events that took place it was the 13th and 14th amendment. The 13th amendment was that outlawed slavery in the United Stated. Sent a strong message through the country that slavery was not allowed. The 14th amendment was first intended to secure the rights of former slaves. It branched off to include other groups like senior citizens, women, children, and people with any kind of disabilities.
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States during one of the most important periods in American History. The presidency gave him the job of Commander-in-Chief of the Union Army. While many citizens thought he was a great president, others disliked his views on slavery.(1809-1865)
Andrew Johnson
Andrew Johnson became Americans 17th president, upon the death of Abraham Lincoln. Most people recognized the Congress. They had decided to press the charges against him. He also apposed the plan of the reconstruction. Johnson restored all rights and privileges of the Southern states.(1808-1875)
